An Emotional Night on Tap

PASCAGLA, Miss. -- A send off ceremony is set for 6 pm for the Mississippi National Guard’s 859th Engineering Company at their readiness center in Pascagoula.

The 150 soldiers are being mobilized for a year in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  “They’ll be leaving Friday, traveling to Fort Bliss, Texas where they will complete their post mobilization training,” explained Mississippi National Guard Spokesperson Timothy Powell.  “And then they will travel on to Afghanistan.”

There, the troopes will have a big job ahead of them.  “They will be responsible for various construction projects.  But, they have the capability to build structures such as guard towers, operation centers, and dinning facilities,” Powell said.
The group is composed of carpenters, plumbers and electricians, all serving as volunteer soldiers with the Mississippi National Guard.
