JACKSON, Miss.-- The wait is over for thousands of people in the state that participate in archery season for deer.
The opening of October coincides with camouflage and bows for many people in Mississippi.
Head of Law Enforcement at the Mississippi Department of Wildlife Colonel Steve Adcock says, "The number of calls pick up and things like that but it's all part of the job."
There's one thing that's on the forefront of all MDWFP officers as deer season starts in Mississippi and that's safety.
Colonel Adcock added, "Definitely be safe. Don't let something that is a recreation turn out to cause injury or kill someone."
The gun hunters will have to wait a little while longer until November 17th when firearms season opens up for most everyone in the state.
