VICKSBURG, Miss.--Michael Pembleton won't serve time in jail, but the shame that comes with a shoplifting arrest while you're the mayor of Sunflower likely won't go away any time soon. The 25-year-old pled guilty in Warren County court Friday, getting no jail time, but being ordered to serve three years on probation and pay a $1,000 fine.
Vicksburg Police arrested the mayor at the Dillard's at Pemberton Square Mall March 12. They got a tip that Pembleton was taking designer purses. Several boxes of them were found in his trunk. The value-over $7,000.
Pembleton had access to the purses as a part-time employee at the store.
Sunflower is in the Delta, north of Indianola on Hwy. 49.
