The announcement came on the same day that the board announced JSU Pres. Dr. Carolyn Meyers and Alcorn State Pres. Dr. M. Christopher Brown, II, would have their contracts renewed to continue running their respective institutions. Those statements came in two seperate news releases from the IHL Board, with accolades for each president. Both have made significant improvements, said the news releases.
The MVSU foundation board supported extending Oliver's contract. The Clarion-Ledger reported Monday that a press conference had been planned for Monday by foundation board chairman Dr. Walter Roberts, who had accused the IHL Board of trying to undermine Valley's stability and cause its closure by keeping Oliver's contract in limbo.
Oliver had been criticized for some personnel decisions.
In a seperate matter, the IHL Board has extended the best consideration deadlines for the committees taking applications for the president positions at Delta State and Southern.
For USM, the deadline is now Friday, Dec. 14. For Delta State, the deadline is now Monday, Jan. 7. All applications and nominations should be submitted to Parker Executive Search at www.parkersearch.com.
The board said interviews will be conducted in the spring semester. The candidates are expected to visit the campuses in February.
