CLEVELAND, Miss. -- The State College Board’s preferred candidate to led Delta State University spent this morning on campus meeting with faculty, staff and students. Then the big announcement came at 1 p.m.
“It’s my pleasure to announce that the board voted unanimously to elect (William) Bill LaForge as the next President,” said Board Member Allen Perry.
LaForge has enjoyed a career in both the public and private sectors spanning the fields of law, government, higher education, and public policy. He is an attorney and registered lobbyist in Washington, D.C., and principal of LaForge Government Relations.
“All of that is vital; but, I think that the one thing that I would say that made him my choice – and I suspect the board’s unanimous choice- is his love for the Delta and Delta State University,’ said Perry. “If you support him, he can be a great president.”
As a DSU alumnus, LaForge has served as national president of the Delta State University Alumni Association and a trustee of the Delta State University Foundation. He was selected Delta State’s Alumnus of the Year in 1992, and a charter member of the Delta State University Alumni Hall of Fame in 2007.
“Thank you for welcoming me home. It’s great to be here,” he told a backed room of well wishers during today’s announcement. “I do have a vision for this school,” LaForge added, while stressing that he wants to make sure your kids get the best education DSU can offer. “That’s what we are all about. That is priority one.”
LaForge now becomes the school’s eighth President.
