Lawrence Reed Has Been Charged with the Murder of Clarksdale Mayoral Candidate, Marco McMillian



CLARKSDALE, Miss. – Lawrence Reed, 22, resident of Clarksdale Miss., has been formally charged with the murder of Marco McMillian. The state's first openly gay mayoral candidate was found dead near the Mississippi River levee Wednesday. Today it has hit national news.
 
Reed is believed to have killed McMillian sometime Monday night or Tuesday morning. The search for McMillian began Tuesday morning around 8:30 after his SUV was involved in a head on collision and McMillian was nowhere to be found. Reed was driving the SUV; he was airlifted to a hospital in Memphis. Reed has since been released form the hospital and is now in custody of the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Department.

So far motive has not been established. According to authorities it was not a hate crime.
