VICKSBURG, Miss. -- The Lower Mississippi River Museum had its grand opening Friday morning. Many were there rush in as soon as the doors opened. City and government officials call it "a gem along the Mississippi River." Citizens hope the Museum will attract more visitors to the already historic city. Director of the museum, Sherry Jones, hopes everyone who visits will learn something new about the mighty waterway.
The museum features information about the river, the Core of Engineers, and wildlife along the river. Outside of the museum is a decommissioned riverboat, and a very large model of the Mississippi River flood planes. If you are looking for a fun and educational time, look no further than the Lower Mississippi River Museum.
