More Energy Awareness Events Set for October

JACKSON, Miss.--Following a week where energy efficiency was the topic at two events in Mississippi, the MDA is annoucing its sponsorship of several more happenings to highlight the need to be more energy efficient. This comes after a declaration by Gov. Bryant that October be Energy Awareness Month.

“Energy conservation and efficiency are critical components of Mississippi’s overall strategy for energy leadership,” said Bryant. “My energy roadmap outlines state-level goals for making the most of our resources, but I also encourage individuals and families to assume responsibility for energy conservation and efficiency. Turn off the lights when you leave a room, and try to use energy efficient products. Small steps can make a big difference”

The governor presented the MDA's energy division with an official proclamation this week.

“I encourage all Mississippians to practice being more energy efficient. Simply turning off the lights when exiting a room and using energy efficient products are two easy ways to conserve energy and reduce energy costs throughout the year."

A press release from MDA said the theme this year is Energy & the Economy in the 21st Century.

Following the governor's energy summit, where former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani spoke and another event in Starkville on the Miss. State University campus highlighting student-focused ebergy programs, the MDA announces the following events:

  • Renewable Energy Day – October 9
  • Stennis Space Center Energy Awareness Day – October 10
  • Odyssey Day – October 18
  • Mississippi Association of Governmental Purchasing and Property Agents Annual Conference – October 22
  • Governor’s Energy Career Expo – October 30
