BELMONT, Miss.--A northeast Mississippi woman's husband was in grave danger, but no more after her arrest in a murder-for-hire scheme. Thirty-five-year-old Mary Elizabeth Newman of Old Hwy. 25 in Belmont is behind bars after a week long investigation by the Miss. Bureau of Investigation.
Lt. Col. Larry Waggoner, MBI director, told us Newman hired a hit man to take out her husband. He did not give a motive.
“Our agents from the New Albany District developed information about the scheme and arrested Newman about 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, in Tupelo,” said Waggoner.
She's in jail in the Lee County Detention Center on a $1 million bond.
