New Head of Tourism Not Intimidated By New Budget Plans

JACKSON, Miss. -- Malcolm White has been named head of tourism for the Mississippi Development Authority. He is best know for founding the Mal's St. Paddy's Day Parade and has also served as head of the Mississippi Arts Commission. Along with this new employment he will also work with new budget constraints.

"At the Arts Commission I got federal dollars, state dollars, and then we were able to raise money in the private sector. Now, tourism, I'm pretty much operating on state dollars," said White.

White says he has never had a problem with making the budget work.

"We've had to make some changes, some alterations, we've had to cut a few things, we've had to downsize, but it has never been a big deal. I was very accustom, coming out of the private sector in how to run a business, and running an agency is not that much different. You can only spend what you have."

"It’s about management, and I've been managing things all my life."

White begins his new position Jan. 14.
