PARCHMAN, Miss.--Michael Dowda is considered armed and dangerous and was last seen by prison officials at Parchman as he left them in his dust Saturday around 3 p.m. New information coming from the Mississippi Dept. of Corrections says Dowda broke into the home of an employee who lived on the grounds at Parchman and stole two handguns before driving off in a white 2005 Chevy Silverado pickup.
That truck has diasbility plates from Yalobousha County. The number is S0922.
Prison records show the 48-year-old had never tried to escape before.
Dowda is a white male, 5 ft. 11, 195 lbs., brown eyes, brown hair and a large build, according to the MDOC website. He was last seen wearing stripes-green and white pants and a white MDOC-issued t-shirt.
Dowda was serving a life sentence for the 1996 murder of his girlfriend in Harrison County. The Sun Herald reports he shot Clarissa Lynn Jarrett once in the head with a .380 caliber pistol and buried her body in a shallow grave. He was caught in Las Vegas three months later. Dowda was convicted and sentenced in 1998.
Anyone who knows where Dowda may be is asked to call MDOC at 601-573-5613 or 662-745-6611 or your local law enforcement. Do not approach Dowda, he is considered armed and dangerous.
