Gov. Phil Bryant today (Thur) delivered a $1 million check o the Cleveland Music Foundation to support the proposed Grammy Museum Mississippi.
That museum will highlight the history of the Grammy awards and the impact Mississippi has made on American popular music. “Some of the greatest of all time have come from Mississippi, from Elvis, to BB King, to Jimmy Rogers,” said Delta State University Delta Music Institute Director Trisha Walker. “So we are going to celebrate that and bring people to Mississippi to see what we are all about.”
That proposed museum will cost about $15 million. The state is guaranteeing more money in addition to the $1 million given today. Cleveland and Bolivar County are pitching in too. And Walker says each government should see a quick return on their investments once the museum is up and running in about three and a half more years. “Because when you say Grammy, it has an enormous impact for tourism.”
