Severe Weather Possible Thursday

By: Knox Graham

JACKSON, Miss.—After a lot of destruction in and around Hattiesburg a little over one week ago the threat for more bad weather is coming.

The National Weather Service is expecting more volatile weather to move back into the state later this week.

“There will be a chance for strong to severe storms in the state Thursday and Thursday night,” said NWS meteorologist Dan Byrd.

Byrd said the low temperatures that evening won’t be below freezing for most parts of the state so freezing rain doesn’t look like a possibility, but the chance for a tornado will be present.

“The best chance looks like it will be in the southern part of the state,” he said.

Specifically he said below the I-20 corridor, after dark Thursday evening will be the greatest chance for a tornado according to their models at the NWS right now.

The NWS encourages all houses to have a NOAA weather radio to alert them in the night to potential danger.
