SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- Southaven Mayor Greg Davis says he will not seek re-election.
In a statement released today, Davis said he reached the decision after talking with his partner and family.
Davis is facing legal problems, but did not mention them in his statement. He has been ordered by the State Auditor’s office to repay more than $170-thousand including penalties and interest that the auditor says Davis misspent from city funds. And he was indicted last month on state charges of making false statements.
Davis admitted more than a year ago that he is gay. He is currently going through a divorce. He served as mayor of Southaven for 16 years.
