JACKSON, Miss. -- Lt. Governor Tate Reeves proposed to initiatives today at State Capital concerning metal health and school safety. He is asking lawmakers to approve a 7.5$ million grant program that will put armed law enforcement officers at Mississippi schools. Each School campus could be granted a maximum of $10,000 from the state if the local government agreed to match that cost.
He also wants Mississippi courts to report people found mentally incompetent to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). That would mean people found mentally incompetent would be unable to purchase firearms or ammunition.
