WAYNE COUNTY, Miss.—A man in the early morning hours Tuesday went on a killing spree and has left many questions in the aftermath.
A deputy responded to a call around 7 a.m. for a wellness check according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department.
“When he entered he found that there were three deceased bodies in the kitchen area,” said Chief Investigator Mike Mazingo.
After finding that the deputy left the home and called for backup. When it arrived three deputies all entered the home to search for a suspect, but only on the second sweep of the house did they find one.
“He was laying up on the chairs with the table cloth over him,” he said.
Calvin Burroughs, 28-years-old, was lying horizontal on the chairs according to Mazingo and another deputy only saw the top of his head hiding.
After spotting Burroughs they flipped the table over and jumped on him. Mazingo said he had a loaded .45 pistol in his possession when he was taken into custody.
“He basically stated that he killed all three of them,” Mazingo said after they questioned him.
The victims were all family members of Burroughs: his mom, grandmother, and cousin.
No motive is known at this time and the investigation is still ongoing.
