Two Dead in Leake Co. Mobile Home Fire

WALNUT GROVE, Miss.--A fire Sunday has left a mobile home destroyed and two people dead near Walnut Grove, in Leake County. Eric Matthews is a reporter with News Mississippi affiliate 98.3 The Groove. He told us the blaze got started about 6:30 Sunday morning on a county road, just east of the town. Both Carthage and Walnut Grove fire units responded.

"A neighbor had reported flames coming from the mobile home," said Matthews. "Upon arrival the home was already fully involved in flames."

After fire crews finished putting out the fire, two bodies were discovered in separate areas on the trailer.

Leake County Coroner Randolph Scott ID'd the two as 66-year-old Johnny B. Jones and 39-year-old Jessica Johnson.

"The Leake County Sheriff's Dept. fire investigators were on the scene and due to the loss of life, the State Fire Marshal's Office has been called in," said Matthews.

He said the cause is still under investigation and that the mobile home had no electricity, but did have a propane heater.
