JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippians, you have two new laws to live by. Governor Phil Bryant signed those into law Monday, and they are all about protecting the rights of gun owners. The National Rifle Association (NRA) also supported both measures.
 
The first law, House Bill 485 - sponsored by Representative Mark Baker, is effective immediately. It it removes personal information of individuals who have a concealed carry permit off of public records, but the information is still available under court order.
 
“As a matter of public safety, I remain opposed to releasing personal information on law abiding gun owners,” Gov. Bryant said. “Sensitive gun owner information is entitled to privacy protections
 
The other law, House Bill 2 - sponsored by Representative Andy Gipson, allows citizens with a concealed carry permit to not be penalized if part of their weapon is showing. The law also allows active dusty military who are 18 years of age to apply for a conceal carry permit. It goes into effect on the first of July. 
 
“These two bills protect the privacy of Mississippians and remove legal traps for law-abiding citizens wanting to exercise their right to carry firearms for personal defense,” said Chris W. Cox, executive director of NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action.
