VICKSBURG, Miss. – The city of Vicksburg has been named one of the top 13 places to visit around the world this year by AAA’s Southern Traveler magazine. Bill Seratt, Executive Director of the Vicksburg Convention and Visitors Bureau believes the city will start to see an increase in traffic and visitation this upcoming year.
“We’ve had some pretty good years in a row for tourism building up to this point. There is a lot going on with tourism in Mississippi and big things are happening,” said Seratt.
This July does mark the 150th anniversary for the Battle of Vicksburg, but Seratt believes that Vicksburg could have been chosen even without the upcoming anniversary.
“I think the anniversary has played a big role in it, but the Vicksburg National Military Park is one of the premiere art gardens in the world. The works of art in the park were created by some of the leading artists in the last century.”
The city has several events planned this year leading up to the anniversary and this year the city plans to attract history buffs throughout the world.
