What to Expect From Heavy Rains Today

By: Knox Graham

JACKSON, MISS.—Lots of rain is falling around the state on the first day of 2013, but will any of it be severe?

Meteorologist Jared Allen said, “No severe weather is expected with this system today in Mississippi.”

That doesn’t mean that there won’t be a lot of rain associated with this cold front though according to Allen.

“We are expecting about 1-2 inches of rainfall with some lighter amounts in the delta region.”

Several rivers in the state have gone out of there banks over the week with all the rain that has fallen over the last month and this system won’t help matters because Allen says it should be around almost the entire day.

As for flood warning associated with the rain locally, it doesn’t appear at this time that will be a problem.

“Currently we don’t have a flash flood watch or any flood watch any effect but we will continue to watch that throughout the day,” added Allen.

No rain is expected for the rest of the work week.
