2:00 pm - October 26
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. This year marks the 75th such anniversary which coincides with the 30th anniversary of the American’s with Disabilities Act.
The Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services works to help individuals with disabilities find careers. They do that through the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation and Office of Vocational Rehabilitation for the Blind. And also through our Office of Business Development. Whereas VR/VRB work directly with the clients, our OBD works directly with the businesses (finding out their openings and minimum job requirements).
One example of a successful partnership through our internships can be found with the Bird Dog Café in Laurel. Bird Dog Cafe just hired intern, Joshua Breckenridge, full-time. It is a true success story of the programs working together to employee Mississippians with disabilities.
