Wide Load Heading to Kemper Coal Plant

The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) would like to announce the following traffic alert to motorists traveling in the state of Mississippi.

Burkhalter Rigging will be moving a big load today, Wednesday, July 18, 2012, from Holly Springs, MS to the power plant site located in Kemper County. The load will be 20 feet and 8 inches wide by 15 feet and 7 inches high, and 98 feet and 1 inch in length, weighing 383,000 pounds on 13 axles. The load will take Rolfing Road in Holly Springs to State Route 7 north, then take State Route 311 north to Landfill Road. The load will travel west to U.S. Highway 78 and then to U.S. Highway 45 to U.S. Highway 45-Alternate. From there it will travel south on U.S. Highway 45-Alternate to U.S Highway 45 and then to State Route 16. Next it will take State Route 16 to State Route 393 south to the power plant site. This will be a day move and will be accompanied by local law enforcement for traffic control when necessary.

“It is imperative to get this big load moved to its destination in a timely manner but even more important to keep motorists safe and aware of the move,” said Central District Transportation Commissioner Dick Hall.

Motorists should be aware and expect a short traffic delay along this route. MDOT regrets any inconveniences this temporary delay may cause.
