Mississippi Lawmaker Says He Looking For Ideas About Your Future

by Chris Davis
JACKSON, Miss.--It's a tour about the future of Mississippi, says House Speaker Phillip Gunn. Gunn says he wants to hear from Mississippians about what they want for the future of their state. He rolls out Oct. 8. The tour will hit key cities like Meridian, Columbus, Tupelo, Hernando and Biloxi.

This is a statement from his website:

After the session ended, I knew I wanted to hear from people around the State about their ideas they have for the future of Mississippi,” said Gunn, who also completed his first session as Speaker of the House in May. “We thought the best way to do this would be to set out on an Ideas Tour where we could hear from the public about topics they wanted to see addressed in future sessions.

The site says the tour will be a non-partisan effort to get ideas. The Mississippi Solutions tour is open to all legislators, residents and press. Gunn is a Republican.

Gunn's website says that during the 2012 legislative session he "strove to create a functional House of Representatives. He appointed chairmen from both parties, encouraging bipartisanship conversations"

Each meeting will last one hour and 15 minutes.
