HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- Reports came out yesterday of one Hattiesburg High School student that had a handgun in his possession during class.
Thanks to HHS Campus Crimestoppers Program, officials on campus were tipped off to the gun and thusly took care of the situation swiftly.
Chief Resource Officer, Tony Davis, with HHS says, "With the campus crimestoppers program, this is about my fourth tip. It does indeed work and I wish more schools would come on-board."
Davis did express that once the tip was received he and another assistant principal got the student out of class and searched his bag finding the gun in his possession.
Davis added, "As far as we can tell there was no malicious intent. He took the weapon from one of his grandparents and really just brought it to show and tell [to his friends]."
The Campus Crimestoppers Program according to Davis is the first of its kind in the state and has clearly paid dividends for the school district.
