VICKSBURG, Miss. – State Representative George Flaggs, Jr., D-Vicksburg, says he will retire from the Mississippi Legislature effective July 1, 2013.
“It has been an honor and a privilege for me to serve; but I think its time from me to do something else,” said Flaggs who was first elected in 1987.
Flaggs says he is still considering his next career options; and they include a possible run for Mayor of Vicksburg. “It is on the table, and we are highly considering it. But I am not ready to make the announcement. I need to talk to about 200 more people. Once I do that, sometime around January 12, I will announce (my decision.)”
Flaggs is currently chair of the House Corrections Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations, Banking and Financial Services, Constitution, Legislative Budget, Public Heath and Human Services and Rules committees.
