Accused Killer Caught After Cops Storm Wal-Mart



JACKSON, Miss.--In the capital city the accused killer of a missing woman was arrested after cops swarmed a Wal-Mart. News Mississippi got Tweets about a barrage of cops and the SWAT team when they went in Tuesday afternoon.

The Rankin County Sheriff's Dept. tells us Cortell Rose was found hiding behind a Coke machine.

He’s accused in the death of 60-year-old Lenora Edhegard of Brandon who was suspected missing when she didn’t show up for work Tuesday. Her body was found on County Line Rd. near Tougaloo College.

Sheriff Bryan Bailey said when cops found Edhegard's car at the Wal-Mart, Rose was inside and did not want to give up. He pulled a gun and when cops did the same, he fled into the store.

That's when large numbers of officers moved in to grab the accused killer and he was found behind the machine.

Deputies began looking for victim’s vehicle, a sliver 2007 Toyota Corolla. The investigation led deputies to the highway 18 corridor in Hinds County. The victim’s vehicle was spotted in the Wal-Mart parking lot on highway 18. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle the driver exited the vehicle and began to flee on foot. During the foot pursuit the suspect began to display a weapon, when the pursuing officer drew his weapon and pointed at the suspect, the suspect dropped his weapon and continued to flee on foot. Several metro Jackson agencies responded, including the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the Jackson Police Department, the Pearl Police Department, the Mississippi Highway Patrol, The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, the Madison Rankin District Attorneys Office and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations. A perimeter was set up around the area to seal off the suspects escape. It was determined that the suspect, identified as Cortell Rose, was inside the Wal-Mart Store. The task force of officers converged on the Wal-Mart and took the suspect into custody without incident.  The investigation next lead to West County Line Road near Tougaloo College where officers located a body of  female believed to be Lenora Patsy Edhegard. The body has been recovered by the Madison County Coroner and transported to the MS State Crime Lab. Based on information gathered during the investigation and evidence collected from the scenes, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department has charged Cortell Rose for the murder of Lenora Patsy Edhegard. Cortell Rose is incarcerated at the Rankin County Jail and will appear before Rankin County Court Judge Kent McDaniel for an Initial Appearance.
