GULFPORT, Miss.-- Today will be the first preliminary meeting for the GoCoast 2020 Commission set up by Governor Phil Bryant.
The commission was set up by Bryant by executive order to oversee the allocations of funds brought into the state by the RESTORE act. These funds will come from lawsuits associated with Mississippi like the BP Oil spill on the coast and the millions of dollars that will come into the counties most affected by the accident.
Spokesman Robbie Wilbur says,"Today we'll be looking at various issues to address when we actually get some funds."
Items for discussion today will include everything from environmental restoration to tourism in the Gulf Coast area.
The commission is composed of over 100 business and community leaders, and elected officials.
