JACKSON, Miss. -- Governor Bryant hosted "The Governor's Energy Summit: Energy and Economic Development in the 21st Century" this Thursday at the Jackson Convention Complex. The summit brought together industry experts to Explore Mississippi's energy future. Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani was keynote speaker at the summit and he had a few good things to say about Mississippi.
"Nothing can do more for an economy that expanding your resources of energy," says Giuliani.
The former mayor believes Mississippi could become a national leader for creating energy jobs and promoting domestic expansion because of the state's plentiful natural resources.
"Here in Mississippi you can be as energy dependent as possible. It is a great model for what other states have to do. If you have to go against the grain of the federal government that is going the other direction, well, at least you will be better off by doing it here in Mississippi.”
On the other hand Giuliani says Mississippi’s push for new energy policies may gain real support from Washington, which would allow the state to grow incrementally, and he wishes his state were doing it too.
