JACKSON, Miss. -- Mississippi’s longest serving current Congressman is facing two challengers in next month’s general election. But Democrat Bennie Thompson says he’s not worried.
“I run hard every day,” he said. “ I’ve voted the interest of this district. I work with local people. I am only one person; and if it was solely left up to me and my voting record, then this state would be a better place.”
Thompson says his voting record is one all Mississippians can be proud of. “I’ve supported health care. I’ve supported our retirees through social security, through Medicare, and those other programs.”
Thompson says he has no plans of debating challengers Republican Bill Marcy of Vicksburg and Independent Cobby Williams of Canton before the November election.
He added that he travels the second district often, which means his constitutes get to talk to him about the issues and his voting record often.
