JACKSON, Miss. -- 7,500 of your friends, neighbors, co-workers, even family members have reported being a victim of domestic violence this year.
Kate is a deomestic violence survivor who stayed in an abusive situation for three years. She says leaving isn’t that simple. “Things happen and you try to say it’s not really happening – talk yourself out of it. They come back, and they are very nice. They’ll apologize. Then it happens again. It’s a cycle,” she explains.
Some people stay in abusive situations all of there lives. But, for those who do get the courage to leave, Heather Wagner with the Domestic Violence Division o the State Attorney General’s Office says have a plan in place. “Somebody who leaves in the middle of the night with nothing more than a bag of clouths and their three kids in tow is stistically much less likely to be able to remain out of that situation,’ sais Wagner.
