Four Passengers Rescued After Boat Crash in the Gulf

BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss.--Four stranded boaters were rescued from Taylor Key, south of Bay St. Louis after a crash that sent a passenger boat aground. It happened about 2 a.m. Saturday after a 30 ft. passenger boat was hit by a larger vessel. That passenger boat was run aground, damaged and stranded.

The boat was described as a cuddy cabin cruiser. It launched from New Orleans and was headed to Biloxi. The four people aboard were from Baton Rouge.

When the 911 call came in, none of the passengers knew where they were or how to tell recuers where to find them because they had no GPS equipment. Bay St. Louis dispatchers told them to shoot a flare.
When the rescue boats got there, the boat was half submerged and half on the reef. The men were on the concrete key wearing life jackets.

The Miss. Dept. of Marine Resources Marine Patrol told News Mississippi two of the passengers were seriously hurt and taken to the hospital. The Coast Guard and the Bay St. Louis Fire Dept. were called to transport them. They were taken to a boat ramp in Bay St. Louis, and then to the hospital.  The other two had scrapes and bruises.
