Man Wanted for Burglary Caught and Let Go in Florida

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss.--Jerome Totten was in custody for a brief time in Florida. Now the Marshall County Sheriff's Dept. is trying to find out why he was let go.

Totten was accused of burglary and successfully evaded cops after trying to ram a county vehicle and running into the woods April 9. Helicopters and a perimeter search failed to find the 41-year-old.

Monday afternoon News Mississippi got a press release from the Marshall County Sheriff's Office, saying Totten had been picked up by the Miami/Dade County cops after they found his listing as a fugitive from justice on the National Crime Information Center Database (NCIC). Sheriff Kenney Dickerson was already getting ready to have Totten transferred back to Mississippi.

Then, an e0mail came that Totten was released at 4:30. No explanation came with that e-mail.
Spokesman Jimmy Warren said in a follow-up to media that the department is working to find out what happened.
