JACKSON, Miss. -- It was through song and drama Thursday that Jackson State University marked its second spot on the Mississippi Freedom Trail.
“Forty-two years ago we had a tragedy to happen here on campus.  A student from Jackson State, as well as from Jim Hill High School was murdered,” explained JSU Vice President of Institutional Advancement, David Hoard.

Phillip Gibbs and James Green were killed by police during a student protest against the Vietnam War and unequal rights for blacks.  “So it is proper that we have a Marker here on campus which commemorates that activity,’ said Hoard.

This second Marker is on JR Lynch Street across from the Rose E. McCoy Auditorium.  The original maker was placed in front of Ayers Hall in April.
