Words of Wisdom From a Survivor

JACKSON, Miss. -- Today we meet a woman who stayed in an abusive relationship with the man she loved for nearly three years.  “I am a victim.  But, I’m also a survival,” said Kate.

She remembers well the day she made the decision to leave.  “It was a violent incident.  And I was left with broken bones; and it was pretty severe injuries.  It was like, enough.  I can’t live with this.”

Kate’s now rebuilding her life and has this message for other woman who may still be in an abusive relationship.

“You’re not stuck where you are,” she said in a calm, compassionate and affirming voice.  “There’s hope!  There is a life!  There is an unbelievable life out there waiting for you if you can just believe in it; and take that first step.”

The first step, Kate said, is a phone call to your local domestic violence shelter.
