No New Mayor Yet, Greenville Still Counting Ballots

GREENVILLE, Miss. -- The special election is over, but Greenville doesn’t have a new Mayor just yet.

Here are the unofficial totals as of this morning: “John Cox – 3, 324 votes; Carl McGee – 2, 319 votes; Cassandra Wilson, McMiller – 197 votes; and Phil Vazzana – 17 votes,” according to City Clerk Amelia Wicks.

She says their election commission sill has more than 500 affidavit ballots to count.  They will meet at 5 pm today to start that process.  Once those numbers are in, the commission will then certify a winner.  “Then the city council has tentatively scheduled a swearing in ceremony for tomorrow morning at 9 am, here at City Hall,” Wicks explained.

That person will serve the unexpired term of Chuck Jordan, who resigned after being diagnosed with cancer.
