Delta State Being Sued by Former BPAC Director

CLEVELAND, Miss.--Roseann Buck is now suing Delta State University, accusing the school of wrong firing practices. Buck was told May 29 that her contract as head of the Bologna Performing Arts Center would not be renewed.

I obtained a copy of The Delta Statement, the student paper, with an article written by Dean Julius in June. Julius isn’t a student. He worked for the Bolivar Commercial newspaper, which refused to publish the story. He then took it to the Statement.

The article says Buck was denied an appeal hearing, while another person, David Dallas, who was also fired from the same position, was given a hearing. DSU is mum on the matter. I am told from sources close to the school that Buck still hasn’t had that hearing.

Also in the paper were comments by DSU employees stating they believed the effective firing to be a travest.

"Surely President (John) Hilpert will not let this outrageous decision stand," said one person who requested anonymity.

Another anonymous administrator said he believed Buck had done a good job as head of the BPAC, given the "restraints of her working environment".

Of course, getting the story on why the firing happened is difficult with silence from the people who do the firing. We are told there may be more developments to the story.

Buck was head of the Bologna Performing Arts Center, which has brought national acts to the Delta, as well as cultural programs. The Center also hosts seome DSU classes and recitals.
