Gas Prices Continue to Drop in Mississippi

By: Knox Graham

JACKSON, Miss.-- Gas prices in Mississippi have continued to fall throughout October and there's at least a couple of factors that have gone into that.

For one, the demand for gas has gone down as we've moved into fall and what many consider the travel season has ended.  As the holidays near it will be something to watch as demand begins to rise again and families hit the road.

Currently in Mississippi today an average gallon of regular unleaded fuel sits at $3.35 per gallon.

That price is over 15 cents cheaper in some places throughout the state than only two weeks ago.

The other factor that plays into the equation, among others, is that crude oil prices have dropped recently due to a mixture of supply/demand factors.

To put prices in perspective though, only three months ago Mississippians were actually paying less for gas at the end of July by a few cents.  A steep price hike through August and September has only dropped enough recently to get back down to what would have to be considered "summer prices."

Missouri and Ohio have the cheapest gas today at $3.23 and $3.27 per gallon, respectively.

This places Mississippi eighth in the country for cheapest gas.

Consider yourself lucky if you don't lucky if you don't live in California, as they're paying $4.26 per gallon of gas and have the highest prices of the lower 48 states.
