Eight to be Honored for Their Sacrifice and Service

JACKSON, Miss. -- Eight Mississippi Veterans will be inducted into the GV (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center’s Wall of Honor next month.  Arie Washington, Sr. is one of them.

Washington is from Utica and has served in World War II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars.  Serving he says, at times, was difficult.
“But as an American, I knew that it was my responsible-regardless of the circumstances-to serve my country.  And it was worth the sacrifice.”

His Sacrifice has not gone unnoticed. He is the recipient of the Silver Star Medal, two Bronze Stars, four Army Commendation Medals, Purple Heart Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, American National Defense Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and a Presidential Unit Citation.
Washington served in the military for more than 20 years.  Upon retiring, he taught JROTC for 14 years.
