JEFFERSON DAVIS COUNTY, Miss.--Jefferson Davis County is being called a hub of drug activity in Mississippi and now a drug raid has netted 17 arrests. It’s a mix of felonies and misdemeanors, but it looks like Tuesday’s raid got some drug dealers off the streets. It was dubbed "OPERATION: Takeback".
Following the raid, Dept. of Public Safety Commissioner Albert Santa Cruz told media that the county is a center for drugs in the state.
“Jefferson Davis County continues to be a hub of drug activity in Mississippi and we are focusing our attention there to try and give area residents relief from the constant threat from the drug trade,” he said.
Agents from the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and Mississippi Bureau of Investigation along with officers of the Mississippi Highway Patrol SWAT Team, Special Operations Group and enforcement division in cooperation with the District Attorney’s Office in Mississippi’s Fifteenth Judicial District, the FBI, the DEA and ATF were involved. The warrants were served simultaneously in several locations throughout the county, according to a news release from the Highway Patrol.
“This is an example of a strong cooperative effort between state and federal agencies to rid Jefferson Davis County of illegal drug activity,” said MBN Director Marshall Fisher. More arrests are expected.
