JACKSON, Miss.-- Today we'll see the mercury continue to rise as the weekend approaches.
Many places around the state have yet to see a moderate amount of cloud cover all week but that could change over the next few days.
On Friday temperatures will be hot for this time of the year.
Meteorologist Dan Byrd says, "South of Memphis the highs are going to be in the mid to low-70's but in south Mississippi highs will be up into the low-80's."
That trend won't change overnight with most areas of the state not forecasted to get below 50 degrees Friday night.
Saturday will be a good day for the gridiron games around the state. No rain forecasted for Saturday and hot once again.
Sunday is when the state could see a change though.
"Getting into Saturday night and Sunday morning we're going to see an increased chance of isolated thunderstorms as a cold front moves partly through the area," Byrd notes.
These rain chances at the moment aren't just terriby high, topping out at 50% in the central part of the state as of Friday morning but it's the best chance of rain for many Mississippians in quite a while.

Regardless, it should be a nice weekend around the state to get outside before cooler temperatures set in next week.
