Kemper Plant Bound Wide Loads to Close Highways

SCOOBA, Miss.--Two giant pieces of equipment continue to make their way to the Kemper County Coal Plant via state highways. The Miss. Dept. of Transportation tells News Mississippi that motorists can expect to see Hwy. 16 in the east part of the state closed to traffic today.

MDOT detailed the closure and route in a press release:

Monday, November 5. Highway 16 will be closed from DeKalb to Highway 493 from 8 p.m., Monday, November 5, until 5 a.m., Tuesday, November 6, for Burkhalter Rigging to continue moving the extremely large equipment to the Kemper County Plant. Each load will be 21 feet 7 inches wide by 27 feet 11 inches high, 345 feet 9 inches long and will weigh approximately 2.5 million pounds. The loads will be traveling south in the northbound lanes of Highway 45 to State Route 16 at Scooba, MS. The northbound lanes of Highway 45 will be closed in increments up to five (5) miles. During the closures, all northbound and southbound traffic will be flowing in a head-to-head configuration in the southbound lanes of Highway 45. Motorists should be aware and expect traffic delays along this route.
