Big Races in Mississippi Tuesday, Presidential Predictions

By: Knox Graham

JACKSON, Miss.-- While much attention has been focused on the national landscape politically, and rightfully so, there are big races in Mississippi Tuesday.

Along with voting for the President tomorrow, residents will vote on mixture of Senate, House of Representatives, Supreme Court Justices, and a special judicial election in District Two Position Two in the Court of Appeals.

A full sample ballot that you will see at the polls in Mississippi Tuesday can be seen here to help you become familiar with candidates before stepping in the booth.

As for the Presidential election, Marty Wiseman Director of the John C. Stennis Center and professor of politic science, says it could be a long Tuesday night for those wanting a clear-cut winner.

"I think we could wind up with five or six Floridas on our hands. We're going to have both sides going to court accusing each other."

Wiseman is clearly referring to the 2000 Presidential election between George W. Bush and Al Gore that took days to decide with "hanging chads" in Florida.

Reports have already said both sides have massive teams of lawyers that will be spread throughout the country monitoring voting all day.

But right now who actually holds the edge in the polls, if anyone?

Wiseman adds, "What makes the Romney camp optimistic is that in most [polls] Obama has not gotten much over 48% . He's usually around 48% to 47% if he's even leading."

The one thing to point out is that within the nine battle ground states both camps are keeping an eye on most polls have each candidate within the margin of error it is so close.

Wiseman points out it just depends on which of the dozens of polls you are looking at.

Ultimately what does that mean? It means we won't know who will win early in the day Tuesday, if even by the time Wednesday is ushered in on the east coast.
