Voter Turnout Heavy in Mississippi

JACKSON, Miss.--Voter turnout was heavy in the early hours of polling Tuesday. News Mississippi has received reports from several different counties indicating long lines.

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann, who oversees elections, said turnout was described as heavy. State Auditor Stacey Pickering told us he had visited several polling places where turnout was heavy.

We've gotten reports and Tweets from Tupelo, Madison, Lamar County, Jackson and several other places that also confirmed heavy turnout.

News Mississippi's Jared Bounds voted at 7:04 this morning and told us voters stretched around a courtyard and around another building at his polling place.

Polls are open until 7 p.m. News Mississippi's coverage and analysis begins as soon as the polls close.
