RIDGELAND, Miss. -- There was a high-speed police chase in Madison County today. Here’s what we know so far: “I believe it stemmed from a stolen vehicle and assault that occurred in Jackson,” said Ridgeland Police Department Supervisor of Communications Mike Raffield.
The suspect was spotted in the city and police quickly closed in on him. “It really wasn’t even a pursuit,” explained Raffield in a phone interview with News Mississippi. “It was a pursuit, but I mean it really wasn’t enough to even call it one.”
That’s because he says the chase ended in about a minute. “He wrecked in a ditch, I think. And that’s how it ended.”
The suspect is now behind bars. His name was not immediately released.
This is the second police chance in Madison County in as many days. Tuesday officers chased down a woman that they say tried to rob someone at a Ridgeland ATM. Rachel Strickland is charged with strong-armed robbery.
