MOSS POINT, Miss.--A large wildfire near the Escatawpa River has caused a smoky haze along I-10 that has officials warning of unsafe travel.
The Miss. Forestry commission and the Sandhill Wildlife Refuge crews were both sent out shortly after noon Saturday near Hwy. 63 when a fire got out of control and consumed around 100 acres of marshland.
Those crews, along with firefighters from Jackson County, worked for several hours to contain the blaze.
Now that haze, as of Sunday afternoon, was causing a hazard for travelers on Hwy. 63, I-10 and Hwy. 90. Motorists were being warned with traffic signs along the interstate.
