PEARL, Miss.--A fire 3:30 Saturday afternoon at the Southland Apartments in Pearl, and now several families are homeless. Mostly upstairs units got damaged, according to firefighters. Four units took the brunt of the flames and now investigators are trying to figure out what happened to start the fire.
This is the latest in several apartment fires across central Mississippi. There have been fires in Jackson, Flowood, Ridgeland and, last weekend, another one in Jackson that took the homes of at least five families.
That one was blamed on a chair that caught fire outside an apartment. Residents said no one had a hose to put it out and it got out of control.
