JACKSON, Miss.-- Severe weather has a chance to show itself in Mississippi on Monday as you start your work week.
Showers are already popping up around the state in the early morning hours and that looks to continue through the day.
Meteorologist Mike Edmonston said, "A quick litlte warm up in moisture will happen today before a cold front comes through this evening."
And with that extra moisture the chances for destructive weather has risen.
"With that they'll be strong to severe weather with the greatest chance for hail but also tornadoes closer to the river," added Edmonston.
The greatest chance for the severe, possible straight-line winds and tornadoes will come later in the evening on Monday.
Like Edmonston said, the closer to the river you are in Mississippi, the higher the chance for severe weather.
After the cold front behind the rain pushes into the state, you know the story probably.
"Temperatures will be dropping tonight after the front moves through," he said.
That means numbers back down into the low-30's during the dark hours before another warmup near the weekend with temperatures easily back over 60.
The roller coaster Mississippi weather will continue with rain chances again on Saturday, but most importantly be aware during the evening hours in the state on Monday for severe weather.
