HAZLEHURST, Miss.--With the Sunday death of New Orleans-area resident 41-year-old Sara Gamill, at least two highway deaths have been logged in Mississippi for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. It is traditionally the second-most deadly for driving, surpassed only by New Year's.
Hazlehurst authorities said Gamill may have been headed back home after visiting relatives when a tire blew out on her Mercury Marquis on I-55 about 6 Sunday evening. Her car rolled over, hitting a road sign and busting her windshield. Gamill was wearing her seatbelt.
What caused her death is still under investigation.
Another death happened in Aberdeen earlier Sunday, about 1 a.m., when 27-year-old Jessica Sheree Jones lost control of her car. She and another person were ejected. Jones died and the other person, whose name was not released, was airlifted to a Tupelo hospital.
