JACKSON, Miss.--Current State Rep. Pat Nelson faces optometrist David Parker in a run-off election to fill the Senate Dist. 19 seat left vacant when Sen. Merle Flowers resigned earlier this year. Nelson is a freshman in the House and faces Republican Parker, who got the endorsement of his former opponent Kevin Blackwell for the seat that covers DeSoto County.
Nelson is also a Republican.
In Attala County, voters will pick a sheriff in the run-off to fill the spot left vacant when Sheriff William Lee died in May. Lexington Police Chief Martin Roby and Acting Sheriff Tim Nail are vying for the post.
There are also several other races being decided today.
One of those is in Lincoln County, where Sheriff's Dept. Capt. Dustin Bairfield and Jane Sisco are running for the circuit clerk post vacated by Terry Lynn Watkins, who resigned after a scandal earlier this year.
