Sen. Dist. 19 Seat Goes to Optometrist David Parker

SOUTHAVEN, Miss.--The endorsement by his former opponent must have been enouigh to propel Dr. David Parker to victory in the special election for Sen. Dist. 19, held in north Mississippi Tuesday. Parker won with nearly 4,000 votes. Current Miss. House freshamn Pat Nelson had about 2,500 votes.

Turnout was described as light by media outlets in the area.

Nelson will remain in the House.

The spot was left vacant earlier this year with the resignation of Sen. Merle Flowers, who left lawmaking to spend more time with his family. Both Nelson and Parker were Republicans.

Parker recently got the endorsement of Kevin Blackwell, his oppoenent in the General Election.
